Louis XIV and the clergy
When king Louis XIV came into power he no longer followed the Edict of Nantes. While he was in power he forced Protestants to convert back to Catholicism.Louis XIV even offered money to those who converted to Catholicism.King Louis XIV even sent troops to take over Protestant households as a way to force them to convert. He took some of the Church's revenues and the powers that the pope still had in France.Because of these new laws that King Louis XIV enforced many Protestants chose to emigrate to other countries.

yea, he was pretty crappy guy for both the clergy and the commoners. He was really strict and was pushing the Catholic religion on everyone. This made things terrible for the commoners as well as the clergy.
once again, we come across the fact that he pushed religion onto everyone during his rule.
His interest in defining France's national religion as Roman Catholic was not necessarily a vain attempt at "saving" the people or appeasing the Vatican, but trying to make the French nation more unified. Because he had already divided the country between the nobility and the commoners, the one way to bring them together was through the church.
I also picked the clergy. Which I learned that Louis XVI did not have the best intentions and was cruel to people he reigned over. He was too strict over the commoners and had no reason to be.
Louis XVI was definitely a king that wanted everyone to think and believe as he did - including religion. He ruled autonomously and did not face much opposition. The disaster that came with each king or queen controlling religion is one of the major reasons why America maintains a separation of church and state.
